This time I really mean it!
No, this is not my new discipline tactic. This time I really mean, Makena cut her first tooth! Yeah! Lower central incisor (thank you baby book for making me sound like I know what I am talking about!). Her little tooth (very SHARP little tooth) popped through on Sunday, March 20th. Daddy and I both triple checked. Two days later, more tooth is there. This one isn't going away! ;)

Update on Makena
Turns out the tooth was a false alarm. Just a sore, disguised as a tooth. Even had the doctor fooled! But still lots of drool, so at some point in her life I am sure she will have teeth!
Rash is clearing up and temperature is back to normal.
First few days of daycare have gone well. Daddy has stopped in each day to check on her. She is eating well and seems pretty content. There is a McKenna in her class, so the teachers started calling her Kena. They picked that nickname up from hearing Melia say it. Melia got to see her one day when they were both outside at the same time! Nice to have big sister keeping an eye on her!

A Typical Weekend
There is no such thing as a "typical" weekend in our house. There is always something going on, or something that throws a wrench in the plans. This weekend was one of those "typical" weekends.
On Friday night I noticed a few bumps on Makena's tongue that looked like canker sores. Chris and I both get them, so I assumed that our girls would end up the same way, just not at 5 months old. By Saturday morning there were more bumps on her tongue, lip and in her mouth. She also was developing a rash on her legs, arms and tummy. She also had an elevated temperature and barely slept at all on Friday night. To top things off, the bumps were obviously painful, because Makena refused to nurse. So I placed an early AM call to the pediatrician.
Our pediatrician was great and we were in the office within 30 minutes of calling. He checked her all out and determined that she had a viral infection. He gave me the name but told me numerous times NOT to Google it. (he must know I am crazy!). He also told me not to tell my friends, because they would Google it and freak me out, so I will not be posting it. The doctor did said that it may get worse before it gets better and that it would clear up on its own in 3 to 5 days. I was worried about her not eating, so he told me what to look out for and what to do if I noticed her becoming dehydrated. By Saturday night she was nursing a little, so no worries there.
On a good note, her first tooth finally came in!
I really try to limit Melia's television time. When she does watch, she is limited to Barney and Your Baby Can Read (she loves those dvds!). She recently has discovered Word World and Dora. Both of those are on helicopter mom's approved list, so I let her watch them. I am quickly becoming a HUGE fan of Word World
. She loves the books and the dvd's. This weekend, thanks to Word World, she spelled her first word: B-O-X! Thank you Runaway O! So those DVD's, Book and Toys are moving to the top of her wish list! :)
A few weeks ago, Chris found a playground set on sale and bought it for the girls. Melia LOVES to go to the playground. After it sitting in our garage for what seemed like forever, we were finally able to get it set up this weekend! It was like Christmas morning when Melia came outside and saw it - "YEAH, PLAYGROUND! MELIA'S PLAYGROUND!". It will be so nice to just go outside in the back yard now when she starts begging for the playground. Thank you Daddy!
We also started preparing for Monday. Monday is Chris' first day back to work since his paternity leave and it is Makena's first day at daycare.

B-I-N-G-O
Melia has never had a "lovey" or a "woobie" or whatever you want to call a child's security item. In fact, I have worked hard to make sure she has slept with different blankets, animals, etc... so she didn't get too attached to one thing. I am not a fan of stuffed animals as it is, so she doesn't really have a lot to choose from.
Over Thanksgiving I took the girls to Michigan to visit family. We stayed with Nonna and Grandpa while we were there. Nonna was very generous to share some toys from her doll cabinet with Melia. Melia took to a little stuffed black dog. She started carrying it around and calling it BINGO (she loves to sing that song!). She slept with it every night we were there.
Nonna was SOOO generous that she let Melia take BINGO home with her. And now, we have a "lovey". Bingo never leaves the house, but she sleeps with him every night. I have tried giving her other animals to sleep with, but she always says "my bingo!".
Hopefully we can stick with just sleeping with Bingo and not taking him places. I am going to continue trying to swap other animals out at bedtime. I am pretty sure Nonna doesn't have a replacement if something happens to BINGO and I know I don't want to deal with a cranky 2 year old that kind find her doggy!
